Prevent Restore: A straightforward application that helps you ensure your deleted files cannot be recovered

When data is deleted from a hard drive, the blank space is not erased, but marked as available. Until it is overwritten with new data, the deleted information can still be recovered using specialized software. If you want to ensure your deleted files actually remain deleted and there is no possibility to recover them, you need to use a program like Prevent Restore.

This application makes it very easy to permanently delete files and folders so they cannot be recovered, via its intuitive step-by-step wizard.

What the program does, is it runs multiple passes over the disk space where the files you deleted were stored. This ensures the files you deleted cannot be recovered in any way. Note this will not affect any files that are still stored on your hard drive.

In the friendly interface, you can select on which disk(s) you want to run anti-recovery tasks and the app provides two different operation modes. You can use the ‘Standard’ mode every day as the process is very quick – it erases all data regarding the location of previously deleted files, which can only be recovered by highly advanced applications like used by the army or the government.

‘Complete’ mode is a more thorough method and it ensures there is no way deleted files can be recovered, but it’s not recommended for daily use since the operation takes longer to finish.

Prevent Restore allows you to customize the FAT/NTFS security level, which can be normal, extended or paranoid. The latter option offers the highest security level but it also takes a long time to complete. What’s more, you can select between DoD US or Peter Gutmann deletion methods.
