Not everyone considers Monday to be the first day of the week and this can differ based on where you live. You’d think Windows would automatically set the first day of the week based on your regional settings but it doesn’t. However, it’s easy to set the first day of the week in Windows 10.

The regional settings are only used to verify if your country follows daylight savings and for setting the date. While it won’t automatically customize the first day of the week, Windows 10 provides the option to do it yourself.

How to set the first day of the week in Windows 10

Earlier Windows versions didn’t make it easy to change the first day of the week since you needed to tweak the Windows Registry for this purpose. Luckily, it’s much easier to set the first day of the week in Windows 10.

How to set the first day of the week in Windows 10

The first thing you need to do is open the Settings app and navigate to Time & Language.

Scroll down a bit and click on the “Change date and time formats” link.

On the next screen, the option we’re interested in is the first one. Simply click on the drop-down menu and select which day you want to have as the first day of the week.

When you open the system tray calendar you should now see the first day of the week as the one you chose in Settings.

Change the first day of the week in Windows 7 and 8

As I already mentioned above, if you want to change the first day of the week in Windows 7 and 8, you’ll need to perform a simple registry tweak.

Open the registry and go to the location below:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International

Search for a key named FirstDayOfTheWeek (it may have a different name, but still similar). 0 is the default value which stands for Monday. Set it to 1 for Tuesday, 2 for Wednesday, 3 for Thursday, and so on. A restart might be needed for the changes to take effect.

The same method can be used on Windows 10, but there’s no reason to use it since it’s much easier to change the first day of the week via the Settings app.
