Justin.tv, the pioneer video streaming platform, is shutting down after 7 years of service so that the parent company can focus on Twitch. While Twitch was first a mere channel on Justin.tv, the service has moved far beyond that and there are great plans at play so the focus needed to be shifted on that.
To put things in perspective, the Twitch channel had more views than all the other Justin.tv channels combined so it got its own service in 2011. In fact, in February 2014, the company was renamed to Twitch Interactive because that is precisely how big it had gotten. With Google now in talks to buy the service, it is obvious why the company would want to focus on that platform.
Still, Justin.tv will be missed as one of the greatest innovators in the video streaming scene. The company brought out a lot of exciting features that are now standards in the industry and its spirit will continue to live on with Twitch. We do not even know what Google and Twitch have in mind after the deal finally goes through so expect to see more information pop up relatively soon.
