How to secure your Fortnite account using 2FA (two-factor authentication)

Fortnite is the most popular game right now, played by millions of people around the globe.  However, despite its popularity and overall good reception of the game, you, the player must be prepared for all the malicious people and bots that want to hack your account, on daily basis. 2FA or Two-Factor Authentication is the best way to protect your Fortnite account from malicious attempts. The attacker no longer needs only your account password to log-in, but your phone as well, which generates the 2FA codes each time you need to login into the game.

This may seem like mildly annoying issue, having to use your 2FA everytime you log-in, but since Fortnite hacking is really an issue, it’s better safe than sorry, right?

That being said, let’s see how can you enable 2FA for your Fortnite account.

Enable 2FA in Fortnite

Open Google Chrome or your preferred internet browser and go to your account page at Epic Games. Now, using your credentials, log into your account. On the left panel, you’ll notice several tabs, one being Password & Security. Clicking on that option, will get you to the Password & Security page where you can change your account password, enable 2FA or email authentication.

You can only enable one of the two additional layers of security, either 2FA or email authentication, which will send you an email, with an unique code. If you have Email Authentication enabled, disable it so we can enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) by clicking on Enable Authenticator App.

Now you need to download and install an Authenticator App for your phone. We recommend getting Google Authenticator which is available for both iOS and Android ecosystems.

Once you install Google Authenticator, open it and using the “+” sign on the top right of your screen, you can add your Epic Games account by scanning the QR Code provided using your phone camera or manually, entering the Entry Key.

Now go back to your Epic Account page and enter the code generated by your Google Auth app. The site will tell you that you’ve succesfully activated 2FA for your Fortnite account.

Now, there’s one more thing to do. In case you’ll lose your phone or something bad happens, you have the option to get recovery codes for your 2FA, allowing you to sign into your account in case something happens. Just use the Generate Codes option and copy the codes somewhere safe, on a piece of paper to store or create a text file, paste the codes there, archive that file using a password and send it to your email for safe keeping.

This way you’ll have the codes anywhere you go without the possibility of someone to hack your email account and get the codes since the archive you created is password protected.

Now you can enjoy your Fortnite gaming sessions even more knowing that nobody can hack your account anymore. Happy gaming!
