Most items and devices are designed for right-handed users, which means it can be tough to be left-handed. Even software is created for right-handed use, important UI elements being often placed on the right.
If you’re a lefty then you already know that all these minor annoyances can easily sum up into a larger one. Even keyboard, mice, and laptop touchpads still favor the right-handed majority. Luckily, where hardware fails, the software can succeed.
How to reverse mouse buttons for left-handed use
Using a simple app called Moure, you can reverse mouse buttons for left-handed use, even though pretty much all mice are designed for right-handed use.
Before we get to the tutorial, it’s worth mentioning if you have a gaming mouse with multiple buttons, Moure is not a solution for remapping them. This app is designed for generic mice as it simply lets you swap the left-click button with the right-click button.
With that said, the first step is to download and install Moure, which you can do by visiting the link below:
Once you’ve installed Moure, launch it. The app will automatically detect all the pointing devices connected to your computer, regardless if they’re wired or wireless.
As you can see in the image above, each detected device has it’s own unique code. Just check the “Swap Buttons” box next to a device. That’s it! Now you can exit the app and use that mouse with its buttons reversed.
If you’re having trouble identifying your device, that’s a problem that can be easily fixed. The issue is pointing devices are identified by their hardware ID and not by name.
To find the hardware ID of your mouse, open Device Manager (you can access it by searching for its name in the Start menu) and expand the “Mice and other pointing devices” category.
Here, if you double-click on a device’s name it will open its Properties window. There, go to the Details tab and select “Physical device object name” from the dropdown.
The displayed value is how Moure identifies your device. Then, you can open the app and select the “Swap Buttons” option for that specific device.
If you ever want to revert the mouse buttons to their normal functions, open Moure again and uncheck the “Swap Buttons” option.
