Ever since Windows 10 was first released Microsoft keeps finding new ways to push ads throughout the operating system. A while back, we discussed how to block ads in Windows 10 but since then, the software giant has found new places to show advertisements.
After Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, version 1709, Microsoft is showing tips and suggestions in the Settings app, showcasing various features. You’d think the Settings app would be that one place where you’re never going to see ads but as you can see, that’s not the case.
Safe to say, plenty of users are annoyed by the new ads shown in the Settings app. The good news is, it is possible to disable ads in Windows 10 Settings app.
How to disable ads in the Windows 10 Settings app
While Windows 10 has brought numerous useful features, all the ads it’s displaying are probably its biggest downside. We get ads on the Lock Screen, in File Explorer, in the Start Menu and even some Store apps we never asked for.
The Settings app now shows suggestions that mostly cover new features, but occasionally it can display tips about new apps and online services. The new suggestions shown in the Settings app might be new but just like the other ads, we can hide these as well. Keep reading to find out how!
To disable ads in Windows 10 Settings app, start by opening the Settings app. Then, navigate to Privacy -> General.
In the right pane, disable the option called “Show me suggested content in the Settings app”. As you can see, Microsoft does allow us to block pretty much any of the ads they’re showing in Windows 10 although the options are not all in one place, making things a bit more difficult.
You can also disable the ads displayed in the Windows 10 Settings app using a quick Registry tweak. If you’d rather use this method, just follow the steps below.
Open the Run dialog (Windows key + R), type “regedit” without quotes and hit Enter on your keyboard to launch the Registry Editor.
Navigate to the following key:
Double-click the value called SubscribedContent-338393Enabled and change it’s value from 1 to 0 and click OK.
