You can now edit your Office documents via Gmail attachments

Google’s efforts to turn Gmail into something more than just an email account continue. Users will now be able to edit Microsoft Office documents from Word, Excel and PowerPoint right through their Gmail inbox. The feature works in both desktop and mobile versions albeit in much different forms.

The process is very simple as you can see above. Users can simply click on the Edit with… button and their documents will be automatically converted to the respective Google format. Of course, a lot of users will want to keep their Office documents intact while still taking advantage of this feature and Google has the solution for you, if you are using Chrome anyway. The Office Editing¬†extension will add the option to edit the files by clicking on the attachment card and selecting the Open option.

If all of this sounds a bit confusing, I suggest you head over to this¬†Google support page to get more information on how the system works across multiple platforms. Keeping everything fluid across all available versions has been a major part of the company’s recent product updates and Android 5.0 Lollipop is only going to reinforce that.
