win7_iconWell, there are some good news and some bad news. The good news is that, in some cases, you can upgrade your Vista to the new Windows 7. The bad news is, well, let’s me hit you with the wall of text.

The Windows 7 Upgrade Program is designed to assist Microsoft’s OEM partners in minimizing the number of end users who may postpone acquiring a new computer because of the impending release of the Windows 7 operating system. This program allows OEMs to offer an upgrade to Windows 7 to end users who qualify.

screenshot_windows7Steve Ballmer finally decided to make it official yestarday at CES, Windows 7 Beta will be available for download tommorow. Although for many of us, Windows 7 Beta was downloaded some time ago from the torrents, it’s still good news for the public.

windows7_downloadSeveral websites have reported a Windows 7 Beta download link appeared on the Microsoft Action Pack Subscription Page (MAPS). Unfortunately, Microsoft pulled it out shorter after the ‘leak’, but as you can see, screenshots were already taken so..BUSTED! Sources also stated that the Windows 7 Beta is ready for a while now, it’s just a matter of time until we can download it.

We can’t say we didn’t expected that and personally, I’m surprised it happened now. While still the dominant software company, Microsoft started to lose ground for the Windows OS and people are more attracted to other platforms, such as Mac or Linux. Microsoft has Windows 7 in its sleeve, but nobody can predict at this point how much will Windows 7 repair what Vista collapsed.

This hidden feature in Windows 7 seems it got away from the eyes of many for some strange reason. And when I say strange is because I consider this feature a very useful and neat idea. If you didn’t watch the Aero Shake demo, this feature allows the users to minimize all the windows with just a shake of a window (?!).

While this isn’t actually a reason to love or hate Windows 7 just now, I find it…appealing.

Microsoft started to throw small pieces of Windows 7 goodies at the developers, raising the enthusiasm for some and curiosity for others. This Windows 7 build is one the Milestone 3 builds, the 6801 build to be more precise.

So, without further delay, let’s see what is Microsoft holding in the Windows 7 bag-o-goodies so far.

It’s clear that Windows Vista isn’t a dead OS, in fact, as we all know, the next operating system, Windows 7 is based on Windows Vista. It also seems that Microsoft is working at the next Service Pack for Windows Vista, namely SP2. While the beta invites were sent out not so long ago, rumors are that Windows Vista SP2 will be launched somewhere in January 2009.

We already knew that the next Windows after Vista will be Windows 7 but hell, we thought this is a codename, like we were used to. Apparently, Microsoft decided that Windows 7 is a very good name for its next OS.
