GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) got its expected update, the 2.6.0. The new GiMP 2.6.0 offers several new features and improvements, but most importantly in this version, GIMP includes support for Generic Graphics Library (GEGL). The Generic Graphics Library is a graph based image processing framework which provides infrastructure to do demand based cached non destructive image editing on larger than RAM buffers.
Believe it or not, Microsoft is now offering its server virtualization software as a free download for anyone. Better yet, the new version of Microsoft Hyper V-Server is a stand-alone edition that doesn’t require MIcrosoft Server installed on the machine.
Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 is a great choice for customers who want a basic and simplified virtualization solution for consolidating servers as well as for development and test environments.

The Android Software Developer Kit (SDK) has been released by Google and it’s available for download. The Android SDK will allow developers build applications for any Andoird powered phone. Google is trying to make the Android THE software for the future mobile era and if you ask me, they are on a good road so far.
It’s also obvious that Google wants to be the next “iPhone killer”, with its open-source Android and the upcoming Android Market ( App Store anyone ).

The long awaited iPhone 2.1 software update is finally here. Let’s just hope that this iPhone update will resolve some of the issues addressed by the users, including the 3G problems. Reports has shown that this update runs smoothly with a good overall user feedback. We will keep our eyes on the forums for further feedback regarding the new iPhone 2.1 update.

Lately, Microsoft has embraced the open-source community in a rather unusual manner. Now, Microsoft begins supporting the Apache Software Foundation with an annual donation of $100,000. It’s clear that Microsoft will slowly go away from its own IIS Web Server platform but raised alot of speculation within the industry.
8,002,530 downloads were recorded for FireFox only in June, making the software the most downloaded ever. This count was made officially, after auditing the server logs to ensure that duplicated and unfinished downloads were not counted. This figure is very impressive and in my humble opinion, some of us FireFox users know it’s worth it. Mozilla FireFox is THE browser and to bo honest, those figures don’t surprise me (ok, only a little).
Paul Kim, marketing head said: “The enthusiasm and creativity of Firefox fans was key to making this happen”. I personally hope that FireFox will put IE in a very deep hole, were nobody will ever remember it. Sorry Microsoft, but IE just sucks, not our fault.
