It seems like the number of cyber criminals is growing and it reached the Mac users. The Mac systems were unaffected for a long time, the worst case scenarios were trojans that needed several confirmation from the user, to be installed and infect the system. Now, things may be a little different, as Apple posted on their support site last month. Apple strongly encourages the use of security solutions, such as anti-virus software or anti-spyware.

Yesterday, the guys from WordPress.org released the next version of the popular CMS, WordPress. The 2.6.5 version doesn’t bring any features on the table, it’s more of a security update. The master password under the Opera browser protects the user sensitive informations such as user saved passwords from being copied/accessed locally. Now what happens if you forget your Opera master password? In particular, nothing bad but Opera will not fill out the username and password of sites that have been stored.

Fortunately, the master password can be reseted and the problem solved.

While personally I don’t dislike Norton or any of the Symantec products, everybody knows that Norton is a resource eating application and many of its users give up on Norton in favor of other security solutions such as Kaspersky, AVG, Avira etc.

Now, Norton is a little tricky to uninstall due to the fact that it leaves many registry entries and folders intact.

This is probably the most annoying yet funny mobile bug I know at this point and it’s happening within the all mighty Android. Shortly, every word you type on your ‘Google Phone’, any phone running Android more specific, will interpret those words as shell commands and Android will run them in superuser mode. Microsoft developed this tool specifically to deal with the increased number of SQL Injection attacks towards websites hosted on Windows server platforms. While the 3.0 version of Urlscan managed to deal with the SQL injection attacks, it also allowed attackers to diversify and it become a threat to the administrators, by backfiring.

The BitDefender family has crossed the Windows platform and gained a new member within the Mac OS universe. SoftWin, the team behind BitDefender, released the Mac version of the popular security software solution.

The software package includes the popular BitDefender scanner, real-time protection and automatic updates. BitDefender 2009 wants to keep your computer away from spyware, malware and viruses, all in real-time using the latest engine and signatures. While Mac users haven’t really needed a security solution, SoftWin’s intentions regarding BitDefender aren’t very clear so far.
