We can’t say we didn’t expected that and personally, I’m surprised it happened now. While still the dominant software company, Microsoft started to lose ground for the Windows OS and people are more attracted to other platforms, such as Mac or Linux. Microsoft has Windows 7 in its sleeve, but nobody can predict at this point how much will Windows 7 repair what Vista collapsed.

The cause of this ‘problem’ is most often the .NET Framework installation that adds an additional user account called ASPNET. What is svchost.exe?
According to Microsoft, “svchost.exe is a generic host process name for services that run from dynamic-link libraries” or, in plain English, svchost.exe is a system program that is needed by Windows to launch other programs that cannot be run without being hosted (thus the generic host process).

Microsoft developed this tool specifically to deal with the increased number of SQL Injection attacks towards websites hosted on Windows server platforms. While the 3.0 version of Urlscan managed to deal with the SQL injection attacks, it also allowed attackers to diversify and it become a threat to the administrators, by backfiring.
Microsoft started to throw small pieces of Windows 7 goodies at the developers, raising the enthusiasm for some and curiosity for others. This Windows 7 build is one the Milestone 3 builds, the 6801 build to be more precise.
So, without further delay, let’s see what is Microsoft holding in the Windows 7 bag-o-goodies so far.

We may witness history, as Windows XP can become the most longevive operating system as long as Microsoft won’t have any problem to reanimate it from time to time. Actually, I’m sure Microsoft isn’t too happy about it but you can’t force Vista forever and preloaded Vista systems won’t stop a XP installation, ever.
