Every time when Windows has finished installing some updates, the all-knowing dialog pops asking you if you want to restart now or restart later for all changes to take effect. But what if I’m doing something and I can’t restart? It’s fine, says Windows, press “Restart Later”. Oh great, says the user, pressing joyfully on Restart Later. But what on earth…the dialog appears again after a short while, asking the user the same thing? Hey heyyyy….!

removewga1Even if this isn’t news for many, removing the Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications Tool is still a hassle for most users, so we have decided to teach you how to remove it completely from your Windows XP system. That, and the incredible large amount of email towards our Editors, made me post this small and easy ‘fix’.

The Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications tool (WGA), is a small ‘feature’ which checks your Windows copy on the Microsoft servers to see if its legit. Of course, we don’t have a problem with that, we’re not stimulating any pirated activities!

facebook_app_2After the succesful FaceBook 2.0 App, the application gets its new update, to the 2.1 version. This update however isn’t a major upgrade to its previous version, but it comes with several good patches/fixes. The new Facebook App comes with improved loading times, enhanced sync times and faster inbox loading (which was a very annoying problem, at least for me).

firefox-logoIt seems it was Mozilla’s turn to update its browser, shortly after the Opera 9.63 update. The current Firefox updates also addresses several security issues including several critical vulnerabilities.  Mozilla Firefox patches no more than 8 security fixes and and 3 critical vulnerabilities. We advise all our Firefox users to update their browsers to the latest release.

WordPress 2.7 was in its beta stage for a while now and users were getting a little impatient. So, the good news is that Automatic, the company behind WordPress announced that WordPress 2.7 will be launched officially tommorow 8 PM Eastern Time.

Yesterday, the guys from WordPress.org released the next version of the popular CMS, WordPress. The 2.6.5 version doesn’t bring any features on the table, it’s more of a security update. Many Ubuntu users have reported frequent problems within Ubuntu with the Caps Lock, Shift or the Control keys. The specified keys stop working  randomly and an Ubuntu restart is required to re-enable them. While this problem isn’t a major one within Ubuntu, it’s not currently fixed or planned by the developers.

You may have noticed that when your Windows is downloading updates and fixes, upon booting, it will not login into your account automatically. The cause of this ‘problem’ is most often the .NET Framework installation that adds an additional user account called ASPNET. If you want to check it out, you can browse to your “Control Panel > User Accounts” .
