This isn’t the first time when Apple rejects an application for competing with one of their in-house applications. It seems the history is repeating and this time, it’s about a bigger player, Opera. Opera Mini, the mobile browser was rejected because source say, it competes with Apple’s Safari web browser. Apple has found another, more legal reason to ban Opera, stating that the popular browser isn’t based on the same language or framework as Safari.

The BitDefender family has crossed the Windows platform and gained a new member within the Mac OS universe. SoftWin, the team behind BitDefender, released the Mac version of the popular security software solution.

The software package includes the popular BitDefender scanner, real-time protection and automatic updates. BitDefender 2009 wants to keep your computer away from spyware, malware and viruses, all in real-time using the latest engine and signatures. While Mac users haven’t really needed a security solution, SoftWin’s intentions regarding BitDefender aren’t very clear so far.

Ubuntu, the popular Linux distribution will be launched officially on Thursday, 30 October. Both editions, the server and workstation will be available to vbe downloaded free from the Ubuntu main site and of course, FileCluster.

This version of Ubuntu will be wrapped around portability and connectivity, as Ubuntu Dev Team states. More and more users switch to Linux lately and Ubuntu is a very viable solution for home users along with enterprises.

Apple has added some long waited features in its next OS 2.2 update, but also some new improvements. The rumored Google Maps “street view” can be found within the iPhone 2.2 update along with the “public transit directions” and the new “location sharing” feature.

While the “street view” feature within Google Maps is enough to make everybody drool waiting for the new iPhone firmware, the public transit feature is a very good addition in this update. iPhone owners will be guided by choosing a transit icon such as subway or buses, along with the estimated travel time for the selected option.

You can visit any country or landscape on your iPhone’s screen but beware, iPhone screen tilting gives you a certain Google Earth addiction. You may never want to use Google Earth on your desktop computer!

I personally find the Flip 3D feature in Windows Vista pretty useless in every aspect, but I found some individuals that loved this feature. The Flip 3D is much slower than…everything and in my opinion, it’s very ugly. If you don’t know what Flip 3D is, you can use it by pressing winkey+tab, but I assure you, you didn’t missed anything.
