Lavasoft Anti-Virus Helix: The Ad-Aware family gains an anti-virus member

Lavasoft, the makers of Ad-Aware, the top anti-spyware solution, decided it’s time to give birth to another baby, the Anti-Virus Helix. Lavasoft Anti-Virus Helix is the company’s first anti-virus solution and it’s aimed to become a hit, just like its big brother Ad-Aware. Anti-Virus Helix comes bundled with all the needed anti-virus components such as malware/pop-up blocker, a full scanner, a web and email protection module and of course, a malware remover.

The first scan performed with Lavasoft Anti-Virus Helix left us with a good impression, the system scan finished the job pretty fast and gave us some pertinent warnings. It also prompted us quite often for actions such as ignore, delete or quarantine which may become a hassle for long over night scans. While turning on expert mode you can also perform rootkit scans or enable the scanning of  outgoing email messages. Lavasoft Anti-Virus Helix is still in its early stages and we are overall impressed with its quality, even at this  stage. We are also confident that Lavasoft will bring a strong competitor at the table and this can only mean a good thing for users.

Edit May 2009: Lavasoft decided to discotinue Anti-Virus Helix. Customers who already purchased it will still receive updates for the software.
