Microsoft just announced today that the next version of Silverlight, the 2.0 will be ready for shipment tommorow, 14 October. Another good news is that, due to the WSUS service capabilities, Silverlight will automatically be upgraded silently. What this means is if you already have SIlverlight 1.0 or above, it will automatically upgrade itself quietly.
Brian Goldfarb, the head of the Developer Platform group, stated that Silverlight will also gain several interesting projects, projects aimed towards the open-source community.
What is Silverlight?
Microsoft Silverlight is a graphical development platform wrapped around the .NET Framework. However, you do not need to have the .NET Framework installed, Silverlight comes with a subset of .NET. Also, Silverlight isn’t aimed only at the Web Development, but dynamic languages such as IronRuby and IronPython and procedural languages such as Visual Basic or C++.
