The guys from CNET decided to test the most popualar browsers using the SunSpider speed test. They choosed the recent Beta versions of Chrome, Firefox, IE8 and also including the latest Safari. While this chart is pretty obvious, Firefox 3.1 Beta 1 is the fastest of them all, with Chrome following him closely.

As a sidenote, the CNET reviewer test both Firefox 3.1 Beta 1 with and without TraceMonkey, Mozilla’s new JS engine. As we can see from the chart, without TraceMonkey on, Chrome took a leap ahead of Firefox. Safari and IE8 are a bit lazy at it seems, but considering IE8 is still in Beta, we may see some improvments in the future.

As a conclusion, even if Chrome is a new born in this market and sometimes isn’t even fair to compair it with the “grown-up”, it does pretty well.
