The new DirectX 11 version announced

Microsoft announced the new version of DirectX within the GameFest festival. While some of you will worry about this new version and its compatibility with your video card, Microsoft assures us that the 11 version will recognize DirectX 10 and 10.1 graphic cards. DirectX 11 will work only within Windows Vista but the new features caught our eye.

- multi-threaded resource handling – the new processing will take advantage of our multi core machines

- new shader technology – with better CPU and GPU management

- Tessellation/Displacement – models will now be more smooth when viewed up-close

Microsoft stated that we should expect DirectX 11 in mid-late 2009 and i’m guessing some features will be tested within upcoming versions of DirectX 10.

I hate it when they push the software ahead of hardware, they make the developers build more resource intensive games, the hardware manufacturer’s to build next-gen video cards and we get constant upgrades…i’m sick of it :(

  2. Karn90 says:

lol, it’s the natural way of developing, i’m just wondering, the next-gen DX 11 games…who will they look? *drool*

  5. Cezar Renta says:

  6. Shadowcaster says:

It will recognize dx 10 and 10.1 but those cards will be limited by shaders 3 and 4 however shader 5 technology will only appear in dx 11 designed video cards, so whether or not DX 11 itself supports and adds onto existing 10 and 10.1 hardware you will still need a hardware upgrade if you plan on using shader 5.0 hope that helps.

  7. Shadowcaster says:

My bad I meant shader 4.0 and 4.1 shader 3.0 was direct x 9 related lol
