Microsoft becomes sponsor of the Apache Software Foundation

Lately, Microsoft has embraced the open-source community in a rather unusual manner. Now, Microsoft begins supporting the Apache Software Foundation with an annual donation of $100,000. It’s clear that Microsoft will slowly go away from its own IIS Web Server platform but raised alot of speculation within the industry.
Some people say that this is a marketing move, some say that Microsoft started a rather strange show. However, the Apache Software Foundation reponded quite positively about Microsoft’s move, as Chairman Jim Jagielski states: ““We thank Microsoft for their generous sponsorship that goes towards supporting The Apache Software Foundation and the over 60 top level projects in use and development within the ASF”.
Microsoft joins Yahoo and Google by supporting the open-source projects but it remains to be seen what’s Microsoft following at this stage.
