check_places_bookmarksBelieve it or not, this is the first add-on that does and I’m suprised as you are. You may wonder yourself why the hell you need a Firefox addon that checks and removes bookmarks that lead to dead pages or duplicate bookmarks. Well, it’s simple and actually, I find it brilliant. Why? Well let’s say I have MANY bookmarks and every day, it becomes many +10.

Imagine I don’t have the brain of an elefant and I might add duplicate bookmarks now and then but most importantly, who has the time to check all your current bookmarks to see if they still work  and the pages are still online. Well…Check Places can. Check Places is the star of this evening and I highly recommend you install it even if you’re not a bookmark freak like me. Check Place is also very easy to use and has some customization, like filtering which bookmarks to include/exclude and also, check for empty folders, duplicates or dead pages.

The total scan didn’t tool long, 3-4 minutes were enough in my case, but I’m the MANY guy. Check Places returns a page with results, after checking and analysing individually each Firefox bookmark.

Not convinced? Install Check Places for Firefox and see for yourself

I just installed CleanPlaces and I’m looking forward to seeing the results.

But I’m also interested in something else: a tool that will allow me to search my bookmarks to find particular keywords. I have assigned keywords to many favorites, but I don’t remember where the bookmark is stored in the Bookmarks hierarchy. Now I want to change some of them. CleanPlaces will find the dead links, which will include some of the keywords.

How can I search through all of my Bookmarks, in every folder and subfolder, to find particular bookmarks?
