AVG LinkScanner: Protect from malicious links

With all the various threats going around the internet, AVG LinkScanner aims to protects its users in real time by every kind of malicious online security threat like spyware and phishing scams.

AVG LinkScanner3Installation & Requirements

The setup process is quite simple but there are some things you should know. If you choose the express installation for example you will install the Web Browsing module by default. If you do not want it you need to choose the custom installation. If you choose to install it your browser will need to be closed so keep that in mind. The supported operating systems are Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8.

Interface

Even though there is an interface for LinkScanner, the application does not require any user input to work. The interface merely works as a way to customize some aspects of the application like the notifications and to temporarily disable it at any point you want. You can also set the module to update itself automatically so that you do not have to do it yourself.

The way LinkScanner works is that it constantly checks the links and sites you are visiting to ensure that there is no malicious software lurking around at any point. If there is it will automatically try to block them from entering your computer and it will inform you about it. It might also simply block some security threats from popping up without you even realizing it. That is, if you have also enabled the Surf-Shield component of the application.

Since everything is working in real time you never have to worry about the safety of the links you are visiting or the scanning of your computer like you would with a traditional antivirus program. It simply checks pages and links in the background in AVG’s databases using their own algorithms to determine the threats. Obviously, like every other security application, there might be some false alarms but mostly it works like a charm without interrupting your browsing habits in the least and without having any kind of impact in the internet connection speed or the speed that your browser runs.

Pros

-Fast installation
-Minimal user input required
-Constant, real-time protection when browsing the internet

Cons

-Limited features

Conclusion

Combined with other AVG utilities like their very own Google-integrated search system, browsing the internet has never been safer. AVG LinkScanner will work for you in the background, always protecting you from malicious threats and with such minimal resources and user input required, everyone should own it.
