downthemallLet’s be honest here, this isn’t the first download manager for Firefox or most likely, won’t be the last. I personally use FlasgGot, the Firefox extension, along with FlashGet. However, DownThemAll drew my curious eyes on the scene and I tried this FireFox extension. At a first glance, DownThemAll feels like other Firefox downloaders such as Video DownloadHelper but with a glimpse of “it’s all that I need”.

DownThemAll is a FireFox extension that improves your favorite browser with an advanced download engine. It can download any media present on the webpage, from links, images to movies or videos. Of course, DownThemAll is very customizable, allowing you to filter the download to your liking. Also, DownThemAll works as a dedicated file download manager, with advertised speeds increases up to 400%. Well, it’s not anything ground breaking, but it’s nice we have it in the same package.

Overall, I think DownThemAll is a must-have addon for your Firefox and I can boldly state that it’s a complete download manager for Firefox.

I’ve always been amazed by those download managers claiming they download faster and people just believe this as a fact.

You download the same media from the same server using the same protocol through the same physical connection. Do you really think the Firefox default download manager is that bad that it leaves room for another application to be 4 times faster ?

I’m surprised by your ignorance Blurp.  Do you know what this add-on does?  Didn’t think so.  Try it and compare your speed to the built-in manager, then apologize to the rest of us for your comment.

Actually, it does download faster, as it’s the case with other download managers such as FlashGet. The principle is easy, as most of the servers accept multiple connections and your download manager does just that, opens multiple connections to the same file and downloads it faster.

This is valid because most servers have transfer limits, so multiple connections of the same speed…you do the math. On servers without transfer limit, this is useless of course, because you download with your full speed anyway.

    Hope you understood now :)
