This is the version of VAD Risk for iPhone / iPod Touch.
There are no consensus guidelines for the implantation of ventricular assist devices (VAD). Various composite risk scores have been devised that incorporate hemodynamic parameters and measures of end-organ function to help identify predictors of survival and guide patient selection for VAD implantation. These risk algorithms have not been prospectively validated, and they are derived from small populations of patients. Nevertheless, they may be useful in clinical decision making. Three such risk calculators for risk of VAD placement are presented in this app.The results of these calculators are for educational purposes only and are not meant to direct therapy. Only careful consideration of all relevant clinical parameters by experienced healthcare providers can best serve individual patient's requirements for VAD therapy.
