Magnetometer mode - just like real compass it shows real-time device orientation to magnetic fields.2. GPS mode - it shows direction of your current movement, it is reliable in areas with magnetic interference. This mode will be available on all supported devices.iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 support both modes and you are able to switch between them in real time.Please know that iPhone 3G supports only GPS mode, because it is not equipped with magnetometer.1.
