Because the data is stored locally, you will never have to worry about hidden roaming charges or the quality of your network data connection again.
And of course, you will always be able to find where you are with the GPS positioning and compass. The map data comes from the open source initiative, OpenStreetMap (http://www.openstreetmap.org/) and is evolving every day.
