KotoTunings - KotoTunings is a collection of 25 traditional tunings for the Japanese Koto.
This version of KotoTunings is optimized for the iPad, meaning that you can enjoy the full KotoTunings experience on the big screen.
KotoTunings is a collection of 25 traditional tunings for the Japanese Koto.
It can be used for tuning the Koto by ear, for studying scales, or for playing with the different tunings.The carefully recorded sounds are played both picked with the left hand and plucked with the right hand using ivory picks. The iPad version includes an additional sustained sound for each note.
Notes are indicated on the screen in Japanese and Western style. Root note for all tunings is D at 442 Hz.D based scale is called "Ichikotsu-cho*" in Japanese.
The Japanese Koto which has thirteen strings, came from China through Korea as a part of Buddhist music in the Nara period in the Seventh Century. The Instrument is made of paulownia wood. One of the earliest compositions with a score available nowadays was made in the Seventeenth Century, and each tuning was created following this score. The basic traditional tuning is called Hira Joshi and was introduced by Yatsuhashi Kengyo (1614-1685).
