Author's Description
Autorun Eater - Scan and Remove Suspicious autorun.inf Files
Autorun Eater is a free utility that can automatically scan and remove suspicious “autorun.inf” files. The increasing number of malware using the “autorun.inf” tactic to silently infect computers from removable storage devices such as external hard disks and flash drives was the main reason behind the creation of Autorun Eater.
When you connect an infected removable storage device to your PC, an “autorun.inf” file is dropped. By default, the shell menu is modified to execute the file (which in our case contains malware) every time the user double-clicks the infected drive.
There are plenty of anti-malware applications capable of instantly removing any detected malware, but the “autorun.inf” file usually remains untouched. This is where Autorun Eater comes into play: it is capable of removing any suspicious “autorun.inf” files before the user tries to access the infected drive. Automatic back-ups are performed for the files in question in case of false-positives.
Features:
- Real-time scan and removal capabilities for suspicious “autorun.inf” files present within the root directory of all drives.
- Toggle scan is hotkey enabled.
- Start, stop and pause scan options are available.
- Scan priority can be set to normal or high.
- Scan results are saved as logs.
- Add/remove function for startup entry.
- Fix option is available for 3 registry entries that are commonly disabled by malware.
