Bird Journal features :
Species:
- At the core of Bird Journal is a database with over 30 thousand species and sub-species compiled using official authority species lists.
- The database currently includes lists for the UK, Americas and the world.
- Bird Journal lets you choose a primary taxonomy. This taxonomy is used for classifications, names and species counts. Mapping between taxonomies is handled transparently, making it easy to enter and view your international records.
Sightings:
- Many sightings can be entered per entry. Sightings are input using Bird Journal's entry screen. An entry can be created for an outing or just casual sightings made at home or while travelling.
- Sighting entry is quick and painless, as a result of much usability testing. If you prefer to use the keyboard only, there are shortcut keys that help to speed up the entry process.
- When entering sightings you can select between different taxonomies to find a bird. You can also assign photos and properties to your sightings.
Graphs:
- Easily track your species and life counts using Bird Journal's graphs.
- The graphs are powerful tools allowing you to analyse the data recorded in Bird Journal. There are three types of graphs: Species Counts, Species Distributions and Population Trends.
Species:
- Count graphs are of interest to many birders. There are three main species graphs: Year Species Count, Month Species Count and Location Species Count.
- The Species Distribution graphs let you see interesting pie charts showing how species are distributed between Order and Family.
- The Population Trend graphs really shine when you record counts for your sightings. There are both Intra-Year and Inter-Year versions.
- All graphs can be customised using the filters on the page to achieve different results. The graphs are automatically updated when changes are made to the journal.
Gallery:
- You can make your field trips more memorable by adding photographs to entries and sightings.
- Bird Journal can store many thousands of sightings and photos without affecting its performance.
- Photographs stored in Bird Journal can be browsed conveniently using the gallery page. You can easily search through your photographs using the filters on the page. Detailed versions of photos can be viewed by clicking on the thumbnails.
Locations:
- Bird Journal allows the user to enter locations in a hierarchical structure. This is a very powerful feature, allowing any possible arrangement of state, county, town, site, route, or even hide.
- Assigning entries to locations automatically updates Bird Journal to show the latest results for the species sighted within different locations.
Dependable:
- Creating and maintaining your bird records can represent a huge amount of invested effort. That's why we take a great deal of pride in ensuring each Bird Journal release is tested, reliable and bug free.
- Bird Journal comes with an automatic backup feature. You can schedule backups for your database or create backups instantly.
Requirements:
- Processor: Pentium III / Athlon 1GHz
- Memory: 512MB
- Hard disk: 30MB for installation
Limitations:
