RootkitRevealer is capable of detecting all the persistent rootkits listed at www.rootkit.com , such as Vanquish, AFX, HackerDefender and many others. Rootkits are techniques and mechanisms used by malware such as viruses, spyware and Trojans to hide their presence from antivirus programs, spyware blockers and system management utilities.

Rootkits are classified into several categories based on some of its behaviors such as whether the malware executes in user mode or kernel mode and whether it can survive reboot or not.
