WinPatrol is a free security application that will monitor the configuration of your system in all its critical areas and alert you of any changes that attempt to occur without your knowledge.

In this manner, WinPatrol will provide valuable assistance into detecting all sorts of threats, such as worms, spyware, adware, cookies, Trojans and many others. Through WinPatrol’s interface you will achieve greater control over the programs running in your computer and find out when any new ones attempt to run.

WinPatrol is using a heuristic approach to detect possible attacks and violations, unlike the traditional security applications that check the contents of your hard drive based on previously identified threats. WinPatrol is also capable of listing all the startup programs (a frequent location of threats), even the ones that are not displayed by the regular Startup Managers.
